2018 World Cup is more and more surprising. Here’s an incredible victory : last Sunday, on July 1st, the national Russian football team won against the Spanish team and reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 1986 ; this is amazing.

The Spanish team opened the scoring at the 11th minute but Dzyuba, a Russian player, made it even at the end of the first half of the match. During the second half of the match, the Spanish team kept the ball, but without succeeding in trying to score. For 45 minutes the Russian team only defended itself against the Spanish who didn’t want to give up the ball.

At the end of regulation time, shootouts ended the match, and Russia won. The Luzhniki Stadium went wild with joy and astonishment.

Russian citizens celebrated the victory all night. The Spanish, disappointed, packed their stuff to go back home.

But the important point is that Russia is in quarter-finals and is going to play against Croatia on Saturday July 7th. Of course for the Russian, the simple fact of reaching the quarter-finals is a victory in itself but they have the skills to try and get their place in semi-final. After all this World Cup is becoming more and more unpredictable, so why not ?
