NYC’S HOTTEST ROOFTOP BARS FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

As the warmer summer weather starts to set in, the streets of the city become ever more packed and stuffy – and for the perfect escape from the crowds, why not head to one of New York’s stunning rooftop bars? We’ve got the lowdown on the 5 best sky-high venues in the Big Apple, where you can sit back and relax with a cocktail, enjoying a birdseye view over the city.

 1. Cantina Rooftop

Mexican food fanatics should head towards the dizzying heights of Cantina’s brightly coloured bar to enjoy one of their signature margaritas overlooking New York’s famous Hudson River. The bar’s range of gastronomic delights includes favourites such as ceviche, tostaditas and tacos, all served amongst a traditional Mexican décor (complete with Día de Muertos printed cushions and plenty of greenery).

 2. Juliette

For a more continental dining experience, city-dwellers can look to bistro-style Juliette, with its quaint décor and twinkling festoon lighting. Sample French-inspired dishes including crispy duck confit and grilled hanger steak, all washed down with a refreshing glass of surprisingly low-priced wine.

 3. Gallow Green

If the concrete jungle’s making you pine for some real plants, Gallow Green’s floral hideaway makes for the perfect sanctuary, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you’re after a daytime brunch or a quirky dinner setting, the Chelsea establishment’s all-American classics (think pizza, lobster rolls and steak skewers) are sure to whet your appetite.

4. Ophelia

Found way up on the 26th floor of Manhattan’s magnificent Beekman Tower, the ethereal Ophelia offers a refined menu of food and drink, against a backdrop of stained-glass cathedral windows and stunning blue interiors. Enjoy the high life with the bar’s delicate foie gras and caviar service, whilst drinking in the views of New York’s famous Manhattan East district.

 5. Mr Purple

Lovers of gastropub culture will feel right at home in this industrial hideout, located on top of the Lower East Side’s Hotel Indigo. Whilst the interiors are lined with wooden rafters and exposed light bulbs, two beautiful terraces boast 6,000sqft of outdoor space, and a sky-high swimming pool offers an unbelievable vista of New York’s cityscape.
