INSIDE THE FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON’S NEWEST EXHIBITION

Since its opening in 2014, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, located in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, has put on a series of exhibitions centred around different artistic themes. The latest, entitled Au diapason du monde (‘In tune with the world’), will run until 27 August 2018, and aims to explore the relationship that exists between man and the world.

The exhibition draws on the work of a diverse range of artists, bringing together both modern and contemporary pieces created using a variety of different mediums. Split into two different sequences, the exhibition reflects on man’s position in the universe, inviting guests to question the connections that exist between humans and other entities.

The first sequence transports visitors into the dizzying world of Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who creates pieces drawing on Japan’s political, cultural and social history. His style succeeds in being simultaneously cheerful yet sombre, referencing Japanese tragedies, such as the atomic bomb and tsunami, using gaudy Kawaii motifs that almost seem to resemble hallucinations. His is a world that is ruled by imagination, and he shows that anything is possible through the marriage of all kinds of different contradictions.

The second sequence showcases the work of 28 artists from all over the world, and was inspired by a Roland Barthes quote from Camera Lucida (1980): “I have determined to be guided by the consciousness of my feelings.” This theme of emotional sensibility is maintained across three different sections: Irradiances, Here, Infinitely…, and The man who capsizes, which respectively seek to explore man’s relationship to nature, his position of power and the different forms of the human body.

Tickets for the exhibition, which was curated by Suzanna Pagé, Angéline Scherf, Ludovic Delalande and Claire Staebler, are available to purchase now on the Fondation Louis Vuitton website.
